SSU Museum and Archives

This pic borrowed from the FB Page of Samar State University Museum and Archives

Yes, there is such a thing! And while items on display are not yet that extensive, there are already some very interesting artifacts waiting for you to discover! Like there are maps of Samar that are more than a century old! There are also some very old novena booklets written in waray. And, one crowd-drawer is this...

Another Hermie Sanchez Book Already Out!

Yes fellow alumni, the book entitled "DAHON, TUBIG, KALIBUTAN: SIDAY PANGKALIBUNGAN" is already out. This book (his 3rd or 4th?) is a compilation of his Environmental Poetry, peppered here and there with a lot of his 'Pen Art'! So nagawas nga 2-in-1 na ini nga libro! A very good find indeed.

As Leo Mamicpic (FPE RAC - Visayas Coordinator) says in the book's preface: "I can consider this book as Hermie's way to remind us of our day to day struggles with our advocacy for environment and how we should sustain ourselves for the never-ending path we all personally took..."

While Oliver Agoncillo (FPE Executive Director) in his back cover message says about the book:..."brings nature closer to the heart of its readers. He vividly captures environmental issues and experiences that evoke our emotions into actions. He effectively captivates our hearts and challenges us to put our ideas into action to promote justice and to protect the environment".

Beautiful waray-waray poetry! And this time it is all about mother earth. Titles pa la, you will already want to read the siday. Here are some of the titles: "Dahon", "Linog", "Ha Kaagahon", "Pangandoy Han Tuna", "Panangis Han Mga Parupamatbat Ha San Joaquin" - intriguing, right?

Adi pa: "Bahura", "Tulay". "Ulot" - (ayaw kabaraka dear alumni, diri ito nga siday about you, about the river ito)! Adi pa gud: "Yolanda", "Ruby", "Glenda" - diri ito mga uyab ni Hermie, mga bagyo ito!

Anay na gud... kay hino man ngayan ini nga gin he Hermie?

Well, still at the book's back cover, the descriptions says he is "A poet, writer composer and artist. He is a graduate of Civil Engineering at the DWU Tacloban and Theology in St. John the Evangelist School of Theology, Palo, Leyte. He is a fellow of various writing workshops and a performance poet"...

An waray isumat ha libro, ini hi Mano Hermie is your fellow alumni. He belongs to SSAT High School Batch 1981! Aton ini! Yeah!

SSU has a new President!

Your alumni association officers had a recent tour around the university's main campus, and we saw a number of tarps similar to this one. Yep, our dear Alma Mater has a new President in the name and flesh of the old one haha! We learned that in the recent Board of Regents meeting, her bid for re-appointment as SSU President was unanimously approved - which means she will continue to function as such, for a term of another 4 years. This only probably means that she is, and has been doing good in her role as university president of SSU.

We Are Online. Yey!

Okay folksie folks!
Yeah you, you and you as in ikaw ngan kamo! Here we go with our own online presence! Here on Blogger.com!

Your SSU Alumni Federation Officers thought of creating this blog, so we have a place to lodge our maski ano nga istorya or iristorya kay danay baya higlaba hin duro nga diri na maupay kon via la han aton FB Page :)

So, what will come out of this blog? Aw, kay anything and everything that we and you the alumni of STS, SSAT, SSPC, SSU want to send or shout-out to fellow alumni. Yes, sige na la, maski adverts about your businesses puydi! But we would like to put special emphasis on mga "istorya" about all of us the alumni - just to provide an update to fellow alumni, and even to get you posted with inspirational stories about all of us!

How will we do this? Sugad hini...
Long stories will be lodged here and will be quoted to our facebook page (nag-like ka na ba hito?) kay makuri an "long story" didto ha fb, ngan makuri bilngon kon maiha na an istorya o topic. While dinhi ha blog, we can take advantage of tags, tabs and categories para madali makita an gin-bibiling! Puydi liwat an 'the other way around' - meaning - kon may mga post na ha aton fb page nga kinahanglan hin huruhilaba ngan huruhilarom pa nga iristorya, we will quote the 'already posted' nga fb material and post it here para maka-'expound' kita!

Oh, for a blog, it is hard and 'impracticable' to allow anyone to post. Not really kay tungod mayada mapaturapak la hin istorya (we like that), but tungod nga we want to 'curate' our stories to be at the very least related to all of us primarily as alumni of STS/SSAT/SSPC/SSU. So, kon may karuyag kamo ipa-post dinhi, just send it to us via email to ssualumni1912@gmail.com, and, subject to our protocols on fairness, relevance and being apolitical... we will post them here in no time. Don't forget to tell us if we should literally quote you by mentioning your name and batch as an attribution to your stories!

Ayaw pag-alang, puydi liwat manawagan dinhi!
